Governor
Richardson’s Higher Education Summit 2007
The 2007
Governor Richardson’s Higher Education Summit was held in Albuquerque, New
Mexico at the Embassy Suites on Monday, December 3 through Wednesday, December
5. There were about 400
participants. The attendees who
participated were regents, presidents, faculty, staff, legislators, students,
and individuals from the private sector.
Dr. Reed
Dasenbrock, Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Higher Education Department, opened
the summit and welcomed all participants.
In his weekly update, Sec. Dasenbrock wrote "Governor Richardson’s
Higher Education Summit was essentially an extended conversation by the higher
education community of the state, and in any good conversation, all
participants learn and come to a new understanding, at least of how others view
them and the issues under discussion. I learned a great deal, both about
current issues the initiatives of NMHED are already addressing as well as about
some we haven’t yet begun to tackle…"
A message
from The Honorable Jeff Bingaman, United States Senator, was read to the
audience. The Honorable Diane Denish, Lt.
Governor of New Mexico, praised the progress made in New Mexico and pointed out
the challenges still remaining for higher education. Check out the following
