During the summer of 2016, the Secretaries of HED and PED tasked the Dual Credit Council, which is an advisory committee established by 6.30.7.11E NMAC that issues recommendations to the Secretaries regarding dual credit, with developing a new administrative code and supporting materials for New Mexico’s dual credit program. The Council was asked to align New Mexico’s dual credit program with the requirements of the Higher Learning Commission, ensure student readiness for college coursework, ensure the quality and rigor of dual credit courses, and specify the qualifications of dual credit instructors. This process resulted in a draft administrative code and procedures reference manual.
Before the Council begins the process of formally adopting the proposed changes, we are asking you to review the draft administrative code and manual. Please consider how you will implement the changes and submit written comments, questions, and suggestions by email to Thomas Schawel at dualcredit.council@state.nm.us by November 4th, 2016. Your feedback is crucial as we work together to create a stronger dual credit program that ensures that New Mexico’s dual credit students take rigorous college-level courses that count towards their educational goals.
